Georgeanne Matthews

The expressionistic and imaginative artwork of Georgeanne Matthews is depicted in a wide range of styles and media. Much of her work combines the form and contours of realism with the flare and imagination of expressionism, abstraction and intuition. Georgeanne considers herself an experimental artist and has been exploring multi-media application including oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, ink and photography. She generally works on canvas or paper although barn board, tree stumps and stick wood have also found their way into her art. While her main focus is painting, her love of the process of creating has taken her down many paths in her journey as an artist and she is always excited to find another fork in the road that challenges her creativity. Major influences in her work have been the French and German Expressionists, particularly Matisse and Marc, the Group of Seven, especially Lawren Harris, and various instructors including pre-eminent Canadian artists Ted Fullerton, Marlene Hilton Moore, Stuart Oxley and Gary Evans.
